moving and Removals to Spain

Tips and advice on how to plan your move to Spain

Moving house can be a traumatic experience when moving across town in your home country. Moving internationally can be doubly traumatic as it requires a lot more planning and thought. If you are not careful, your removals to Spain costs can skyrocket unless you take some time to shop around and preplan properly.

Moreover, if you have children or pets, you absolutely need to plan your move to Spain with the precision of an army sergeant to ensure that you arrive at your destination an unstressed as possible. With good preplanning and research, your new life in the sun will be the best move you have ever made from Day One!

Below is a checklist of what you should start thinking about once you have decided that are going to move to live in Spain.

Get Rid of your Clutter

Use moving house as an opportunity to sort out your possessions. Now is a good time to give unwanted clothes and bric-a-brac to your local charity shop or friends and family.

Pack Intelligently

When moving internationally, it is a good idea to get hold of sturdy cardboard boxes from your local supermarket or buy plastic crates from your local DIY shop. They are excellent for helping protect your possessions and they can be reused again and again.

Save newspapers for wrapping breakables or use bubble wrap for extra secure packing for your valuables. It's a good idea to pack heavy items in small boxes as it will be easier to transport them.

Don't completely fill large boxes, as they will be too heavy to move and may cause back injuries.

Start packing at the top of the house and work your way down. Try and pack the contents of each room together so when you unpack its easier to find what you are looking for.

Make a List

As you pack each box, write down on a notepad what items you are putting in it, and assign a number to each box.

After packing, you will then have a complete list of all your belongings and the number of which box they belong to. It is not a good idea to list the contents of each box actually on the box for security reasons.

Put hazardous material, such as paint, bleach and aerosols into a separate box and keep them away from the rest of your belongings.

Pack important documents together, such as birth and marriage certificates, and keep them in a safe place. It is a very good idea to keep these near you at all times - if you are flying, pack them in your suitcase, or if travelling by road, in your car.

Don´t forget your Kids!

Organising a removal to Spain can be very stressful with young children in tow. If possible, leave them with a family friend or grandparent right up until the time of your departure. Pack their toys carefully, and keep their favourite toys together in one or two boxes for easy access once you arrive in Spain. Plan for your journey to Spain in advance with plenty of snacks, drinks and games that can be easily played in the car or on the plane. Remember, to allow time for the all important comfort breaks.

And finally, organizing a Removal to Spain IS worth it! You may feel like cancelling your plans for your move to Spain when you realize the work that is involved. However, don't give up!

Good planning and research are essential. Use a professional removals to Spain company and all the stress will be forgotten on your first evening, sipping a glass of wine under a clear, balmy, moonlit sky!
