Benalmadena is situated between Torremolinos and Fuengirola and is one of the main attractions in the Costa del Sol for international tourism and totally devoted to the tourist world. Benalmadena has good hotels, attractive urbanisations, golf courses, amusement parks, a pleasure craft harbour and other features that make this an attractive destination for many who visit this Costa.

Phoenician, Carthaginian, Roman, Visigoth and Arab influences have all helped to shape Benalmadena which consists of three key areas: Benalmadena-Pueblo, higher up on the mountain, Arroyo de la Miel (Stream of Honey) and Benalmadena-Costa which is a first-class tourist resort. Benalmadena was the name given by the Arabs shortly after they defeated the Visigoth king, Don Rodrigo, in the battle of Guadalete in 711 a.d.

Some traditional dishes from Benalmadena include roasted baby pork (Cochinillo), fried fish, grilled sardines, shell fish and Gazpacho.
